What is Decibel Defense known for?

Decibel Defense is known for creating premium passive hearing protection with industry-leading 37 dB NRR earmuffs, trusted by over 300,000 customers since 2016.

What is the difference between Regular, XL, and Kids earmuffs?

Regular fits most adults, teens, and even pre-teens, XL adds extra headband extension for larger heads, and “DD Jr.” is specifically designed for infants, toddlers, and younger children from 6 months to about 10 years of age.

Is Decibel Defense a US company?

Yes. Decibel Defense is an American family business with US-based customer support and a long-standing reputation for fast, friendly service. We are based in Long Beach, California.

    Are Decibel Defense earmuffs certified?

Yes. Adult earmuffs are certified to ANSI S3.19 and CE EN 352-1 standards, ensuring tested and trusted hearing protection performance.

    What is the Double-D Guarantee?

The Double-D Guarantee is Decibel Defense’s satisfaction promise: if you are not thrilled with your earmuffs, the company will make it right with a replacement or refund.

Are your earmuffs good for sensory sensitivity?

Yes. Many customers use Decibel Defense earmuffs for sensory relief, focus, studying, travel, concerts, and reducing overstimulation in loud public spaces or from appliances like blenders or vacuums.

    Do you offer free shipping?

Yes. Decibel Defense offers free shipping on all orders. We do not cover the cost of return shipping. Please refer to our warranty and refund policy for additional details.

Which earmuffs are best for shooting?

All Decibel Defense earmuffs are effective for shooting and can help protect against loud impulse noise at the range or in the field. The best choice depends primarily on fit, age, and comfort, ensuring a proper seal for maximum protection.

For adults, our regular and XL models offer a tailored fit based on head size, while our DD Junior earmuffs provide dependable protection for younger shooters.

Decibel Defense also offers industry-leading noise reduction, with up to 37 dB NRR for adults and 28 dB NRR for kids, delivering some of the highest levels of passive hearing protection available.

    Are these better than earplugs?

In most cases, yes—earmuffs provide more consistent and reliable protection than earplugs because they physically cover the entire ear and are easier to wear correctly. Earplugs rely on proper insertion, which many users do incorrectly, reducing their effectiveness.

Earmuffs also help absorb and block more sound across a wider range of frequencies, making them a strong standalone solution for most environments.

Some people choose to wear both earmuffs and earplugs in extremely loud settings, but for the majority of users, a high-quality pair of earmuffs provides excellent protection on its own.

What makes your hearing protection premium?

Decibel Defense earmuffs are built using a proprietary blend of dB Tech sound-dampening foam, high-quality materials, and precision design to maximize noise absorption and real-world performance.

Every component—from the internal foam to the outer shell and seal—is engineered to block and absorb as much sound as possible while maintaining long-lasting comfort and durability. Combined with our industry-leading NRR ratings, thoughtful design, and trusted customer support, this creates a level of performance that goes well beyond typical low-cost alternatives.

Where can I find your return policy?

How long do Decibel Defense earmuffs last?

With normal use and proper care, Decibel Defense earmuffs are designed to last for years of regular use. The passive design means there are no electronics, batteries, or moving internal parts to fail, making them especially durable for shooting, yard work, shop use, and travel.

    Do you offer replacement parts?

Yes. We stand behind our products with a warranty support program detailed on our website, and our team is always happy to help if anything doesn’t seem right with your earmuffs.

For normal wear over time, we also offer a Hygiene Kit, which lets you easily replace the foam and ear cushions at home to refresh comfort, fit, and long-term performance.

Over time, ear cushions can naturally harden—especially with regular use and exposure to sweat—which can reduce effectiveness and comfort. Replacing the cushions periodically is a simple way to maintain optimal performance and keep your earmuffs feeling like new.

What are the earmuffs’ physical dimensions and weight?

The regular earmuffs feature ear cups approximately 4 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide, with an inner opening around 2.5 inches by 1.5 inches for a secure seal. The overall adjustable height is roughly 9–11 inches from crown to ear cup bottom, depending on slider position. At 9.5 oz, they are lightweight enough for comfortable extended wear during work, shooting, or events.

What if they feel too tight? Can I stretch them out?

Yes. A snug fit is essential for achieving the full 37 dB NRR protection, so they may feel firm at first. For a gentler fit, simply stretch them over the product box overnight. This helps break them in while preserving the secure seal needed for maximum performance.

How do I care for and clean the earmuffs?

To keep your earmuffs in great shape, wipe the ear cushions and headband with a soft damp cloth and mild soap if needed, then allow them to fully air dry. Avoid harsh cleaners, soaking the foam, or exposing them to extreme heat for long periods.

Do you run promotions or discounts?

Yes. We occasionally run seasonal promotions, bundle discounts, holiday sales, and limited-time offers. The best way to stay informed is by joining our email list (which includes a 15% off coupon).

Do you sell in physical stores?

No, Decibel Defense is only available online through our website and major marketplaces, which helps us keep pricing competitive and maintain direct customer support.

How can I show support for Decibel Defense?

The best way to support us is by sharing your experience, leaving a review with pictures or videos, telling friends and family, and choosing Decibel Defense for future hearing protection needs. As a family-owned American brand, every order genuinely helps us continue improving our products and mission.

What is the OSHA noise reduction method, and how does it relate to NRR?

The Noise Reduction Rating (NRR) measures performance under ideal lab conditions. In real-world environments, actual protection is typically lower due to fit and usage.

OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. agency that sets and enforces workplace safety standards) recommends a more conservative estimate to reflect typical conditions. For example, a 37 dB NRR earmuff provides roughly 15 dB of real-world noise reduction when applied using OSHA’s method.

A proper fit and secure seal are critical to achieving the highest level of protection. This adjustment helps account for variables like fit, positioning, and user consistency. A proper seal and correct fit are critical to achieving the highest possible level of protection.

What makes Decibel Defense earmuffs different?

Our regular Decibel Defense earmuffs deliver an industry-leading 37 dB NRR, giving you the highest level of passive hearing protection available in a comfortable over-ear design. They are ANSI S3.19 and CE EN 352-1 certified, foldable, lightweight, and built for all-day wear. We are obsessed with hearing protection and we stand behind each and every one of our hearing protection products.

Who are these earmuffs designed for?

The regular size is designed to fit 93%+ of adults and teens ages 10 and up. The adjustable metal sliders let the ear cups move up and down for a secure seal around the ears, which is critical for maximum noise reduction performance.

Are these good for shooting, yard work, and power tools?

Yes. These are ideal for shooting ranges, hunting, construction, lawn equipment, woodworking, heavy machinery, concerts, fireworks, and sporting events. They are also commonly used for sensory relief, concentration, and reducing overstimulation in noisy environments.

Do you offer a larger size?

If the regular size feels too short vertically, choose an XL version, which adds extra headband extension. The ear cup size stays the same - XL only adds more length for larger heads.

What age range are Decibel Defense Jr. earmuffs designed for?

DD Junior earmuffs are designed for babies, toddlers, and children ages 6 months to 12 years, with an adjustable padded headband that grows with your child for a secure and comfortable fit.

In some cases, older children may also be able to wear our adult earmuffs. However, adult models apply significantly more clamping pressure, which may be uncomfortable for younger users. For this reason, DD Junior is the best choice for most children, offering a balance of effective protection and kid-friendly comfort.

How much noise protection do the kids' earmuffs provide?

DD Junior provides an industry-leading 28 dB NRR, helping protect young ears from loud and overstimulating sounds at concerts, fireworks, sporting events, school functions, and while traveling.

Are these good for sensory-sensitive children?

Yes. Many families use DD Junior earmuffs to help reduce sensory overload, anxiety from loud environments, and overstimulation during busy events, travel, or classroom activities. The soft padded fit and lightweight design make them especially easy for kids to wear comfortably.

Can my child wear these on airplanes, road trips, or in a stroller?

Absolutely. DD Junior was designed to be lightweight, travel-friendly, durable, and easy to pack in a diaper bag or carry-on, making them ideal for flights, long car rides, busy airports, stroller walks, and crowded public spaces.

How do I know if the fit is correct for my child?

The earmuffs should fully cover your child’s ears with a gentle but secure seal, without slipping during movement. The adjustable earcups allow you to customize the fit as your child grows, helping maintain both comfort and effective hearing protection.

Will you be coming out with more colors for the kids line?

Our current DD Junior lineup is available in our two most popular kid-friendly colors: Blue and Pink

We’re always listening to feedback from parents and regularly exploring ways to expand the line, including new colors, bundles, and family-friendly options. If you’d like to see a specific color added, we’d love to hear from you at contact@decibeldefense.com

Which helmets are your attachable earmuffs compatible with?

Our attachable helmet earmuffs are designed to work with most standard hard hats and construction helmets that support side-slot mounted accessories but are not compatible with hard hats with a brim measuring more than ½ inch. They are ideal for use on construction sites, manufacturing floors, forestry jobs, chainsaw work, welding, and industrial environments. Helmet sold separately.

How much hearing protection do the helmet earmuffs provide?

These hard hat earmuffs deliver a powerful 30 dB NRR, providing excellent passive hearing protection for loud worksites and heavy equipment environments. They are built for reliable use around machinery, power tools, chainsaws, manufacturing lines, and jobsite noise exposure.

How long do I have to return my earmuffs?

You have 60 days from the date of delivery to request a return or refund.

Our goal is simple: if you’re not satisfied, we’ll make it right.
